Near the bottom there is a new Tilt Data Import button that lets you import either Tilt CSV data, or data from a Google Spreadsheet link. Brewing FeaturesĪ large number of people have requested the ability to import TILT data, which you can now do from the Session tab. To make it easier to backup/recover your data there are now Backup and Recover from Zip file commands on the File menu. On startup you will be asked if you want to move your data to the new locations, which I do recommend. I’ve also moved the default data location of BeerSmith data to the %APPDATA%/BeerSmith3 on windows or ~Library/Application Support/BeerSmith3 on the Mac to comply with app security recommendations and also reduce issues with Antivirus programs which often block access to Documents. In fact, Gold+ mobile users of have basically the same functionality as the older BeerSmith lite mobile app now. In fact last Fall I released the Tools portion of this on and also made it mobile friendly. While not complete yet, this is my long term goal, and I’ve started work on an online web based version of BeerSmith which will sync with other platforms. The new system stores data as soon as you press OK, so it should significantly cut down on data loss.Īn additional benefit in the new system is that it lays the groundwork for syncing all data including profiles, ingredients and recipes across platforms. This created problems if the program or computer crashed or was shut down before BeerSmith could save the data. Older versions of BeerSmith read your data in on startup and saved it when you shut down the program. One of the largest changes in 3.1 is the underlying data storage, which has moved to an incremental transaction based system. The focus in BeerSmith 3.1 was to lay the groundwork for an upcoming web based version of BeerSmith, as well as add some critical new features and updates to BeerSmith desktop. BeerSmith 3.1 OverviewīeerSmith 3.1 is another great step forward in the long term development of the BeerSmith suite of products. So that’s a quick summary of how to use BeerSmith in another language. If you want to learn more about creating a language XML file you can visit the discussion forum thread here. Many ingredient and equipment providers also have BeerSmith compatible BSMX or XML files on their websites. However, for some languages additional files are available as add-ons such as local maltsters and style guides you can download and use. ![]() All of the data (ingredients and profiles) will still be in English. Keep in mind that the XML file will only translate the main program. Finally restart BeerSmith and it should come up in the language you selected. Under the Language File section, click on the button labeled Set Language XML File and then select the language XML file you downloaded. If you are running the latest version of BeerSmith desktop, simply open the Tools->Options dialog ( BeerSmith->Preferences on the Mac) and scroll down to the bottom of that dialog. Store this file somewhere safe on your computer such as under your Documents directory. In addition on the discussion forum there are additional translation files for a wider selection of languages.įrom any of these locations you are going to download a file that will either be named “Lang.xml” or will have the name of the language like “Spanish.xml”. On the main download page for BeerSmith there is a section called “Additional Downloads and Language Files” where you can download language files for Spanish, French, Portuguese and German. Fortunately the software was designed with this in mind, so there are alternative language files available for many languages. With the worldwide popularity of our BeerSmith software, I often get users asking if it is available in non-English versions. This week I’m going to cover how you can run BeerSmith desktop in a variety of languages using the language files available online.
